Pirates Sign Marlon Quintana
By Jason Shetler

On Monday, the Pittsburgh Pirates inked RHP Marlon Quintana out of Cuba, for a signing bonus of $100,000, this according to MLB reporter Francys Romero. Pirates writer John Dreker reported last week that the team had agreed to sign Quintana.
The 17-year-old Quintana is a 6’2, 192 pound right-hander, who already has a good feel for pitching.
In terms of pitch repertoire, Quintana throws a low-90’s fastball that tops out at 93. The secondary stuff includes a very good, mid-to-upper 70’s curveball, and a developing low-80’s changeup, which has the chance of becoming a quality, third offering.
The signing of Quintana makes him the seventh Cuban born pitcher to join the Pirates’ organization.
Quintana turns 18 in June, and should begin his pro ball journey pitching in the Dominican Summer League.
