Axiel Plaz Promoted to Greensboro

On the same day that Pittsburgh Pirates top prospect Konnor Griffin received a promotion to the Altoona Curve, catcher Axiel Plaz has been promoted to the Greensboro Grasshoppers. MLB.com’s Jonathan Mayo first reported the Plaz promotion.
Plaz has played in the Pirates’ organization since 2022, this after signing with them out of San Felix, Venezuela.
2025 has been a good year offensively for Plaz, slashing .262/.348/.450, along with nine home runs in 233 plate appearances for the Bradenton Marauders. May in particular was a strong month for him, as he hit seven homers, while slugging .568.
In addition to catcher, Plaz also plays first base. Defensively, his work behind the plate is currently a work in progress, so what position he ultimately is at will depend on how he develops as a catcher.
MLB Pipeline recently updated their prospect rankings, and they have Plaz as the 29th ranked Pirates prospect.
